E-testing is a testing and assessment cloud-based platform providing self-service testing management and organization services to educational and training institutions. Supporting PCs, PADs and smart phones, it is capable of delivering rapid creation and organization of tests for various scenarios. E-testing’ proprietary digitized item production technologies can enable a rich set of item presentations to meet the demands of various subject tests in general education, higher education and vocational education. E-testing products can record the whole process of how test-takers sit for test and the test results, provide management personnel with complete data statistics and analysis, and effectively promote the results of teaching and learning with the embedded advanced testing technologies. E-testing products have been applied in testing programs such as Cambridge Young Learners English Test (CYLET) and NCTE organized by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP)

Since 2012, ATA has been providing CYLET with computerized test technology and test services based on ATA E-testing. The computerized CYLET based on ATA E-testing, which is adopted in CYLET in a comprehensive way, bears similarity to the traditional paper and pencil test in terms of the subjects for testing and the test content. However, unlike traditional oral test which is conducted by the examiner, the oral test in the computerized form is conducted with the characteristics of “one computer for each test-taker” and the interactive roles in the computer who serve as the examiners. The answers to the questions are also recorded by the testing system and then scored by the examiner. Such a way of testing not only save test-takers from waiting to be tested, but also remarkably shorten the testing time, thus enhancing the test efficiency. After the computerized form of the test is adopted, the time of issuing the test results is also reduced by half from the past four weeks to the present two weeks.
Mobile equipment terminals of various operating systems such as Android and IOS can be used as test machine for a CYLET using ATA E-testing product. The test signals can be received and sent out in a wireless way through MTS system, and it is possible to inspect the location and condition of each testing machine and manage the test process in a real-time manner. The ATA E-testing technology can greatly enhance the efficiency of the organization and management of test. At present, CYLET using ATA E-testing technology has been successfully conducted for many times in regions like Hong Kong, China, and countries like Spain, Argentina and Mexico.
In collaboration with the English Branch Company of FLTRP, ATA provided China University of Mining & Technology with a digitalized test service based on ATA E-testing products for the first time. The test is an end-term test on New Standard College Test. FLTRP was responsible for the test delivery and test content, while ATA provided test technology and test services based on E-testing products, and digitalized services related to test items. ATA E-testing products and iTest System developed by FLTRP are brought in line in terms of test content and test-taker registration information. A total of more than 1,300 students from various departments of China University of Mining & Technology took the test.
Digitalized College English Test using ATA E-testing products can more effectively collect the test data of test-takers, record, analyze and summarize the behavior of how test-takers answer the test items. Based on digitalized record and analysis of the test process and result of each test-taker, ATA E-testing products can help understand the progress of each student in mastering the knowledge, and thus provide scientific and effective data basis for College English Test. This is of profound significance and value in reforming the college English education especially in the link of evaluation.
In its collaboration with FLTRP, ATA adopted its E-testing technology in the NCTE. The NCTE, which first adopted ATA mobile E-testing technology, was almost the same as the traditional paper and pencil test in terms of test content and test items. The difference lies in the test item presentation. The mobile test technology makes it possible to simulate the scenarios of test items by using rich colors and images and vivid cartoon characters, thus presenting more vivid test content for test-takers. With the characteristics of “one computer for each test-taker” and the interactive cartoon characters as the examiners, the oral test considerably reduces the psychological pressure on test-takers.
The use of ATA mobile E-testing technology also enhances the efficiency in organizing and implementing tests. Mobile equipment terminals of various operating systems such as Android and IOS can be used as test machine for tests using ATA E-testing technology. The signals of E-test paper and answers to the test can be rapidly received and sent out through ATA E-testing system wireless management terminal, and it is possible to record the question-answering behavior of test-takers and inspect the location and condition of each testing machine and manage the test process in a real-time manner. The ATA E-testing technology can also effectively shorten the time for scoring the tests.
