On July 13, 2015, the International Meeting of the Psychometric Society 2015 (IMPS 2015) formally opened at the Student Activities Center of Beijing Normal University. As China’s leading provider of talent assessment solutions, ATA was invited to attend the international event of this year. While submitting its academic paper to the meeting, ATA also presented its vocational and educational assessment products, attracting wide attention from the experts, scholars and scientific researchers in the field of psychometrics.

Sponsored by the Psychometric Society, the annual event of the IMPS has been successfully held for 79 years. This year, it was held for the first time in China. Organized by the China Collaborative Innovation Center for Quality Monitoring of Basic Education and Beijing Normal University, the meeting brought together nearly 600 attendees, including over 200 overseas educational and psychometric scholars, scientific researchers and institutional staff, and more than 300 scholars, scientific researchers and professionals from Chinese colleges, universities and assessment institutions.

During the meeting, Dong Qi, President of Beijing Normal University, delivered the opening speech. Zhang Houcan, a well-known Chinese psychologist and professor at the School of Psychology of Beijing Normal University, delivered a keynote speech titled “The History and Development of Psychometrics in China”. According to Zhang, psychometrics had a long history in China, but its development road is tortuous and full of obstacles. Despite its rapid development since the end of 1980s, it still has a long way to go. Therefore, equal attention should be paid to the theoretical learning and practical application of psychometrics and the international exchange in this field, added Zhang.

From July 13 to 15, several academic meetings and lectures were held at Yingdong Conference Hall, Jingshi Building and other sub-venues of Beijing Normal University. Scholars and experts from home and abroad gave detailed presentations of the latest methods, technologies and progresses in the field of psychological and educational measurement, and shared their research ideas and achievements with each other. Following the keynote speeches on IRT equivalent, cheating detection, longitudinal model, cognitive diagnosis model, and statistical inference, more thematic workshops and lectures wwere held on July 14-15. For example, Mr. Alex Tong, Vice President of ATA, delivered a speech titled “The Validity of Scenario Judgment in Large-Scale Campus Recruitment Tests” on the afternoon of July 14.

Being an academic meeting with a long history, the largest scale and highest level in the field of psychometrics, the IMPS enjoys high reputation and wide influence in the academic circle. That’s exactly why ATA attached great importance to this event. “Since its establishment a dozen years ago, ATA has been focused on the fundamental research in vocational and educational assessment, and has successfully translated its research findings into products and services, thus providing quality assessment products and service experience to hundreds of customers. We take advantage of this opportunity to introduce our ATA brand and share our research ideas and results with our peers and scholars, as well as experts from home and abroad in order to further promote the innovation and development of China’s assessment industry,” said Mr. Alex Tong.
